2016 Eclipse Awards Reflection
Lonny (Taylor) Powell
CEO : Florida Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Assn./Member: Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia Technical Committee
I am so honored and privileged to have served as one of the presenters at last nights Eclipse Awards (horse racings global version of our "Academy Awards") right here in beautiful Florida and Gulfstream Park.
To have co- presented the awards to 2 of the finest horses in recent memory-the magnificent Beholder and the legendary California Chrome is such a humbling and memorable experience.
In reflection after the awards were over (and a good friend brought it to my attention) it finally sunk in that this has been truly an amazing life and career for a guy who started out 40 years ago at a small track in Boise, Idaho cleaning the jockeys room toilets, grandstand garbage cans, mowing the paddock, cleaning jockeys boots and saddles, saddling horses and loading them in the starting gate. Fast forward to being a part of saluting 2 of the top horses in the world.....amazing.
Thank you racing industry-the people and the horses-for giving me and my late jockey Father before me, such a special life and career. Most of all.....BIG-time congrats to Chrome and Beholder!

7 年maybe In the near future we would realize that the connections of the winner's would be allowed to speak it seems that every one else has more to say than the winner's meantime McGregor riding bare ass on a horse advertising the big race at Gulfstream park seems a bit well u use your imagination
Experienced leader, relationship and culture builder.
7 年Lonny Powell, no doubt it's been quite a journey from Les Bois to presenting at the Eclipse Awards. I also find myself reflecting on how my passion for horses and the racing industry has resulted in a long and varied career. So many things I've got to do and places I've got to go. All the best my friend!
