2015 Was a Lot like Puberty
Looking back on 2015, I realized this year felt a lot like puberty - all over again. It was exciting, embarrassing, gut wrenching, scary and fun. There were a lot of first both for myself and my company. I spoke at my first TEDx event, we created our first mobile app, and we launch our first Kickstarter campaign. It failed and we learned a lot. And yes, we will do it again.
We were bold. We were exploring, experimenting and most of all unafraid. Like an awkward, rebellious teen hell-bent to make a statement. We worked on our first music video and told people to Get Their Shit Together. We have a mug and a club now to prove it. I'm sure most everyone looked at our adolescent behavior with a smirk much like the mother in the above photo. Sometimes mother knows best, but sometimes mother just need some reassurance that her child isn't a complete delinquent.
That reassurance came in the form of a recent featured publication from Motionographer. Motionographer is the premiere online publication for the motion design, animation and visual effects communities. The title of the article, "How to hustle: From animation to apps, Justin McClure Creative is the new model for small shops" Could it be that all of this ruckus and chaos we've been stirring up is indeed the secret sauce? I'm not sure, but I do know one thing... the future belongs to the curious. Stay thirsty my friends and have a wonderful and prosper 2016. Cheers!

9 年I had no idea there was one at WATC. I've been wanting to put one together for years. Let's pick a date.

9 年Wish I'd known about the TEDx at FHSU. I was on the organizing committee for TEDxICT at WATC a few years back. We should do that again…
This year was absolutely brutal for me but also just like puberty. I finally ended up solo as a freelancer again after 5 gut wrenching years trying to hold a studio together. Then I wrote my 1st two TV pilots. I had my 2nd son. I spent half my summer working to get a job I realized I didn't want, taught myself to illustrate again and ended the year working to relaunch my website Changethethought.com. It was hard, expensive, scary and enriching. And I'm ready to put in the work to grow from puberty to adulthood in 2016. Keep at it Justin. As a working creative from a small town in Nebraska married to a woman with family in Wichita, you are in inspiration. Keep pushing, keep growing and keep expanding.
