Jump???

For a long time now, I’ve been part of the crowd reading endless posts and articles about quitting your job and start something by your own and the beauty of success; or about not to quit your job and the terrible consequences of doing such…

Glory or defeat… ying and yang of your professional career and future life.

Well, after giving it a lot of thought (not enough in the mind of many of my close ones) I have decided to jump on the cold waters of uncertainty, and give it a try.

This not something that I recommend to any one nor advice against, as it is truly a life changing decision to be taken on belief of one self, with a plan and strategy; not too far away from what a climber must do before risking his life going solo on a mountain challenge.

I took the scary choice of leaving my job, here is why:

Starts with a dangerous question, am I happy? And to clarify I’m not talking about this idealistic state of bliss where everything every minute is perfection and laughter, I refer to the holistic happiness, the balance of a happy grand total.

It would be a lie to say I wasn’t, but after really giving it some weight I came to the conclusion that the topic was not unhappiness but a sense of dissatisfaction, but why?

I’m blessed with a beautiful family, my wife is my biggest supporter (now days also an entrepreneur) and our two beautiful daughters light up our world, we are all healthy and together, I had a great executive position on a very successful company in Germany, and on the economic side we were not truly lacking.

Then again why was I not satisfied, what was missing?

It really pushed me to look hard, several days of mixed feelings about what ifs and terrifying scenarios of failure and after a lot of talks with my wife we came to the final decision after gathering some core points.

  • We will never be younger and healthier than today
  • We make a great team, both will strive to build something
  • We can always go back to the corporate life
  • We will not live with the regrets of never have tried

I believe that with time I’ve acquired “brain bookmarks” of phrases like, the Roman scream <what we do echoes in eternity> and to my Mexican roots where Aztecs believed that people are really death when there is no one else alive to remember them.

What is my legacy? What would be my mark? Which message am I giving my daughters?

JUMP.

We gathered what we had, sold things that were not fundamental, counted our savings and our belongings and moved along, with a lot of plans, strong will and high self-belief, our secret weapon is to know there is no failure on trying and my working experience and business savvy comes with me wherever I go.

How are we doing?

This is still not a victory, we just got on it, but so far my wife has started her small business and is moving steady, my girls are incredibly happy and healthy.

Me? Well I have already won more than expected, not money (that is still to come), my earnings have to do with finding a lot about me, the value of family and friends and understanding that if I had not taken this risk it would have taken me longer to discover that my calling has to do with the desire to create and serve.

I’m working hard on making my projects feasible as fast as possible, creating a company that is environmentally sustainable and that socially serves people too, a true responsibility and best way to improve society and pay back…while also making profit; or joining a Team that goes this way. It is possible as long as your ambition does not turns into greed.

Will my enterprise succeed? I surely hope so; I do know that, just for trying I′ve won plenty.

The worst decision one can take is not taking one at all!!! Like I said, this is far from a fairy tale story, there is a lot to still happen and I just started, first step is hard.

Point is, if you are one of those not willing to let go of the comforts of a steady job and paycheck certainty then don′t try this it is not sweet, but if like us you have the need to follow your calling and willing to pay the risk, then jump too.

Cheers
