Why Frozen is the Perfect Movie

Saw the Disney masterpiece Frozen this weekend with my children who range in age from under ten to screenagers. I was not anticipating how much I would love this movie and more surprisingly how my screenagers would declare this to be one of the best movies they’d ever seen. “Fantastic” from a kid who gets bored unless there is Rated R content, gore, violence, special effects, etc. was compelling.
So compelling that I wanted to start a blog on just how great this movie is and why you should go see it, regardless of your age. You will feel amazing, entertained, and maybe even inspired.
I don’t want to over hype the movie, because it is a simplistic story, yet it is also profound on another level.
The core of the story revolves around the human challenge to conquer fear. And in the story, before that can happen, the fear consumes and destroys. It’s such a metaphor for our own lives about how fear can hold us back from everything in life we love, people we deeply want to connect with but don’t, and ultimately how fear becomes the excuse we use to claim victim to our isolating lives.
We see the eventual handcuffs that must be worn as fear has imprisoned its victim. The virtual fear that lives in the mind is manifested in the physical world just like in our lives……..where an individual’s fears affect all those who come in to contact with that person. Relationships are stressed, productivity is compromised, and the draining energy of fear takes its toll.
Without giving the movie away, I can tell you that the pivotal moment is when fear is conquered, which of course is central to the plot. However, Disney does a fabulous job of tricking you into exactly how that will happen. In addition, I give them big points for doing a masterful job breaking down crappy old stereo types that harm our girls.
So in the end, what conquers fear is the opposite of fear. Maybe not what you would naturally conclude. It is love. What a beautiful message as we ride along the journey of character’s self-discovery, that love is what will save us from our darkest deepest fears and allow us to become the confident amazing being that is within us too.
It’s the lesson you want your kids to know and the one you might need a little refresh on as life piles on its complexities and challenges. It’s within all of us to be truly amazing. Thank you Disney for reminding me, again.

10 年Great review of this movie. I can't stop singing the songs :) Have you seen "Brave"? I had given up on Disney, but both of these movies are just outstanding. Best line in "Brave": (daughter to Mother): "I know that you are afraid, and that you don't understand! But if we just CALM DOWN and LISTEN, the wisps (our faith, intuition) will show us the way!"
