Fighting the Digital Divide: Connecting For Good
With all my posts about the challenge the new reality of technology presents us and the loss of jobs that will accompany it, it was refreshing to come across a great organization addressing this head on for the most vulnerable of us.
Connecting For Good, of Kansas City, Missouri, is addressing the Digital Divide, which they believe is “the most important social issue today”. And Kansas City does have some grim metrics around this issue.
They have “been bridging the Digital Divide since 2011 with wireless mesh networks, community technology centers, low cost refurbished PCs and free digital life skills classes. It is the only Kansas City area nonprofit, that has digital inclusion as its core mission”.
Connecting For Good’s core values include:
? Internet connectivity equals opportunity
? In a digital society it is impossible to pursue a quality education without access to the Internet
? In-home Internet access must be viewed as an essential modern utility.
Without organizations like Connecting For Good, the people they serve have little hope of flourishing in the new technical reality that is upon us but still yet to be understood.
