I spoke with some very clever people today. We were talking about software, business requirements and the business application of software like HighQ Collaborate. By their own admission they weren't technologists and they mentioned something that I hear a lot..
They need technology to be uncomplicated and just work!
Having worked in technology for over 15 years this is my mantra. It was't always and I've done a tremendous amount of learning. We have to also accept that technology is invariably complicated regardless and there is very little you can do to get round that. Despite working in technology for this time, I can't code, I certainly don't know what the difference between ruby on rails and java is. I can't tell you the difference between a SAN and a VM and I can't tell you the difference between SQL and Oracle databases.
What I can tell you, is the business value of technology and I can tell the difference between enterprise software that has been 'designed to just work' compared to those that have been 'designed'.
When re-building HighQ Publisher this year, user experience was at the forefront of our thinking, always. I used to joke that we needed to design and implement features so I can use them without the need for lengthy training. We did and that's remained our yard stick.
As a result we're confident our clients will get tremendous value and ultimately be empowered because it will just work.
