8 Predictions for 2015 (That will definitely come true!)
There are two types of content I really despise at this time of year. Those summarising what has happened in the current year (we're still a month away from the new year, that content should be written in January!). The second is predictions. Especially because the vast majority of them never come true and are purely based on what people wish will come true. Talking about it won't make it happen, doing will.
However I'm going to play this game for fun as I never have, with 8 things that will happen with 100% certainty in the next year:
- There will be an election in the UK, and at least 50% of the people will be unhappy with the outcome. If it's a hung parliament again, at least 90% will be unhappy. Yet the majority of people will never vote to change the voting system.
- There will be a major weather event that will give climate change deniers an excuse to deny climate change, and the remainder trying to educate people the difference between climate and weather.
- Business technology "futurists" will tell us all a new technology is going to change the world and we need to buy into it quickly (using their solution) so we don't get left behind (think cloud computing, big data etc).
- We will move further away from world peace, despite that fact most people in the world want it.
- We will learn more about how our western governments aren't our friends.
- Some new technology/application/game will come seemingly from nowhere and into the mainstream that no one predicted, because there are people working hard silently on new useful things, not just talking.
- When December 2015 comes to an end, the world will almost certainly not end, and it will become January 2016.
- Uber will become the new Groupon. An easily copy-able selfish business model that has created many enemies while not being friendly to business, governments or consumers. It will reach a pinnacle where it's all downhill from there. It worked for Ryanair for a while because it's not easy to create an airline, however even for them they've reached "peak-prick".
- There will be 1000s of articles featuring "millenials" in them somewhere as an excuse for not writing qualitative research.
So please, stop predicting the future. Start creating the future. Start doing. Instead of predicting something is going to happen, make it happen, that's the only way you can be certain it will happen.
