The Components of Online Branding by Kimberly Crites
Brand Creation is a word that is being thrown around a lot lately. Marketers have come to realize a very important aspect regarding brand creation and online Branding. The creation of a brand has always been of utmost importance. The face of branding has changed with the introduction of technology, the internet and social media. Creating an online identity and branding is now one of the primary goals of companies.
There are various components that a company must cover when trying to create a brand online. This becomes especially important if your brand is entirely non-existent online. With the amount of content being uploaded daily and the many businesses popping up, how does a product distinguish itself long enough to become recognizable and then stay within the memory to morph into a brand.
Who are you?
Tell your customers upfront who you are, what you care for and what your goals are. Give them a reason to take you. Every element on your website and social media should project just what you want to convey to your customers. Your identity is what will ultimately determine your brand, so don’t cut corners. Don’t be modest about your positives. This doesn't mean that you exaggerate your capabilities. Try to convince your customers of the importance of your brand in their lives.
Website
Your website has to be the best face of your company. Online trends and web design continually change. Make sure that you keep up with the trends but do not deviate from the core of your website. Consistency in one way of another is important to people to keep you identifiable. Keep some elements that will become synonymous with your brand identity and present them in a refreshing / creative way every time you make changes.
The Social Media
Once you have created and established your social media, you are at the halfway point to brand creation. Social media is where you really being projecting your personality to your customers. Social media is a powerful tool that can be implemented for the creating your brand. Just remember that social media can be flakey, any of the content that you post is always a gamble. People may misinterpret a post, or vent their frustrations about your product. There have been many companies who have failed horribly at it and the way back is not an easy one. Always, always, always, respond in a timely manner.
Consistency
As mentioned above, consistency is everything. Make sure that your branding elements are the same across all platforms and are easily recognizable. If a customer views you website and is redirected towards your Facebook page, the experience should be the same. A consistent theme and color is always a good idea. Don’t insert anything that doesn’t add to your brand. If it doesn’t work in cohesion with the other branding elements or does not serve a purpose, then it’s best to remove the element.
