You Should Blog

Want to jump start views on your LinkedIn profile? Need an easy way to demonstrate your expertise to help find leads?

You should blog. Really.

You are reading a blog. This is a blog. And it's super simple to do thanks to the folks at LinkedIn. You can even make it in a list format with no knowledge of HTML formatting or coding. Here's how.

  1. Think of a topic where you have expertise. It should be a topic that people would be interested in reading about.
  2. Click on that pencil icon next to your name on your LinkedIn homepage. It's in the box where you post your status updates.
  3. Write your blog. Click to share. Tag people who you think might be interested in reading it. For example, this week I was talking about how cool this LinkedIn blog feature is to a friend, and suggested she blog on LinkedIn to help get the word out about her business. She inspired me to write this blog. So now I'm going to share it with her.
  4. Ask people who read your blog to comment on it. This increases engagement and readability. Some people aren't aware of the power of commenting, so this nudge will be helpful, both to you and to them.
  5. Check out your blog stats to see how many people are reading it and commenting.
  6. Then, give me a shout out when you realize how cool the LinkedIn pulse (aka LinkedIn blog) tool is.

Using LinkedIn is a great way to take advantage of an existing reader-base, as opposed to trying to drive traffic to your own blog. Just make sure if you affiliate yourself with your employer that they're OK with it :)
