Supporting ‘All in for Alex’
Last night I was sitting at home with my family watching a Current Affair when a story came on that really struck a chord with me. The 17 minute segment focused on the Piper family from New South Wales who have been confronted by a whirlwind of challenges for over a decade. Matt is 100% blind and Alex has metastatic breast cancer currently undergoing treatment for stage 4 stomach cancer. With three young children this couple displays true selflessness as they continue to work to provide a bright future for the family no matter how hard their situation is.
What I admire most about this phenomenal family is the hope and perseverance they have. Both Matt and Alex are incredibly strong parents who fight every day to see their three children happy. Their indestructible partnership has seen them get through the hardest of times while loving and raising their young family, enjoying every moment together. Alex’s doctor communicated that she has always been positive about her treatments which have been recurrent since 2010. What an inspirational woman to keep pushing on and remaining positive when all seems dark. Their personal journey has hit the heart strings of our nation as the fundraiser has raised over $500,000.00 for the family.
This morning our team took a step to help them by donating to their cause. Our thoughts are with this remarkable family. We hope our donation from the Unita Group combined with the kindness of so many others works to help each member of this family.
It is true, at times we can all get caught up in our own circumstances and struggles (there is no denying we all have them) but every so often taking that chance, that moment to reach out and make what little change you can to help someone is something that I think we should all do and I feel that we lose sight of what difference we can make.
If you want to watch the full story that was on A Current Affair last night click here. To read more about their story or donate click here. They will also be doing another live broadcast with the Piper family tonight. There is so much going on in this world and we should reach out where we can.
