1 in 2 Silent Gen Docs Not Using Tablet; 1 in 4 Not Using Smartphone!

When asked which of the following devices they use for personal and/or professional purposes (MediaVitals 2014), it was not surprising to learn that Gen X/Y physicians have adopted technology at a rate higher then their older physician counterparts – particularly the Silent Generation Physicians (whose adoption of technology is actually high). Even with such adoption, it is still interesting to note that the use of the tablet is highest for Gen X/Y docs (vastly so for personal purposes) and nearly 1 out of 2 Silent Generation physicians still does not use the device (with 1 in 4 still not using a smartphone!). As proactively staying abreast of medical developments is most important for Silent Generation physicians who's top 10 sources for doing so include three that are digital (also revealed in the Media Vitals 2014 study), it is critical to recognize that content must be optimized across platforms (on- and off-line) to maximize user experience and access to information.

This is great, thank you. It's nice to see something 'out there'? that shows the broad range and oftentimes nuanced specificities within channel consumption 'stats'. Most channel usage reports, and thus their corresponding media plans, over-index the early-adopters to tech and thus leave out a potentially very influential segment.?

Susan - who are the" silent generation" physicians? As a " baby boomer" myself, I'm not familiar with that term. What ages does it indicate?

Hi Susan, is this because they are not using a smartphone .... or they don't realise their phone is a smartphone (and they are not using 'smartphone' capabilities ie web and apps)?

Great learnings. Interesting to see that the silent generation is well versed with laptop/desktop but many don't see the value yet of hand held devices.
