JUST GRADUATED!!
So here you are in your last semester/year all loaded with final projects and assignments, thinking of your future careers and how to give it a head start and how to hunt jobs for yourself. Well, here is a nice piece of advice for you as you step into practical world.
1- Volunteer and Dare to introduce Yourself
You must have dreamed of few organizations where you want to work in near future. Are you waiting for an opportunity to be knocked at your door? Don’t wait. Get up, dress up and land there. Meet the managers and offer your volunteer service to them. Tell them you want to learn the way they work. Tell them how you can help them with little tasks in your capacity. Learn by doing. Develop your network from today.
2- Start following the People in the field(s) you desire to adopt
Internet is everywhere and you have got that too. Learn and practice browsing. Trust me its a skill that should not be taken for-granted. Read about the people that inspire you. Read success stories. Believe in them. Start taking actions right away. Make a list and do one step everyday towards your goal. Even earning to buy a new tie or a pair of professional shoes is the first step to your career. Get it done!
3- Market Yourself in Job Market
Look for the media where Jobs are advertised. Paper, Web wherever you find them. Apply wherever you see yourself eligible and willing to work. Most recruitments do not happen overnight. Apply today to get hired after months. So NOW is the time. There is never harm in applying. Give interviews and enjoy them as a check of your abilities. Make sure you learn out of every interview you give. Do not repeat your mistakes and go to interviews well-prepared. Interviewers are seeking individuals who are well prepared for stepping into promising careers and are willing to take up the challenges.
4- Social Media Profile - That’s what Professionals do!
Develop your LinkedIn Profile today. Get yourself connected with your potential employers. Give them a chance to see your professionalism through your social media profile. Believe in the fact that Right People are what Recruiters are always finding. Be that Right person for them. Be mindful of the demands of the positions you aspire to attain. Every detail matters. Your dress up, your attitude towards work, towards your time and others’ time that you take, the investments you have made in yourself over a period of time, the initiatives you can take and the Value you can add! Remember, the clothes you are wearing were once just the cotton threads. Someone got up and thought to make a cloth out of it and then it was designed and stitched and reached you. So the first step is all what it takes. Rest is a chain reaction.
5- Invest in yourself
Always remember that the room for improvement is never full. Keep updating yourself in any way you can. The way you talk, the way you walk, the way you dress up, its never too late to learn and change for good. Besides, every job requires some data processing skills, some designing skills, and some creativity. Learn new softwares that can help you simplify and add value to your work. Learn a language that can give you an edge. Acquire new skills. Last but not the least; Learn to go an Extra Mile, the road less travelled and see the difference it makes while putting a cherry on top of Everything!
