First, it’s important to understand what's in the span of your control on LinkedIn – and what isn't.

Here are the LinkedIn Changes that Send Updates to your Connections: (HINT: You CAN Control these activity broadcasts.)

• Update your profile’s headline
• Add or edit a new current job position (even if it’s just correcting a typo)
• Add or edit a new current school or degree
• Add a new link to a website
• Recommend or Endorse someone
• Follow or Like news
• Add a connection (including Recruiters)

• Follow a LinkedIn company page

Here are the Changes that Automatically Send Updates: (HINT: You CANNOT Deactivate these Notifications.)

• Upload or edit your profile picture
• Join a LinkedIn Group

To minimize the notifications to your connections, it's critical that you follow ALL 3 of these steps:

1. Turn on/off your Activity/News Mention Broadcasts
2. Choose whether or not to share your profile edits
3. Select Who Can See Your Activity Feed (Change this option to Only You)
