The Digital Recruitment Age.

We live in The Information Age, also known as the Computer Age, Digital Age or New Media Age. News is spread on-line instantaneously and we can carry access to the combined knowledge of the human race in our pockets. Whether it’s news on the Middle East or Kim Kardashian’s marriage, we can get up to date, real time information right to our screen.

But what does this mean for recruitment?

Candidates are changing the way they search for jobs. On-line job boards have well and truly taken over with SEEK being the number one choice for job hunters in Australia with 26.6 million visits per month. In a country with a population of 23.6 million, that’s a lot of hits.

But are they all relevant?

Hiring managers and recruiters are changing the way they engage with talent. Advertising response is not enough and companies are turning to social media to find top talent. LinkedIn has over 5 million members representing one-third of the workforce and having a professional digital profile is one of the best ways to be head hunted by a recruiter.

So, as a business looking to find top talent in your industry, how do you and engage with the best candidates in your industry? For some, it’s all about employer recognition and brand awareness. Positioning your organisation as the employer of choice for your industry is the key to getting the best in the industry to come banging on your door.

Google receive 2.5 million applications per year (and that number is growing) simply because they are known in the tech industry as an employer with fantastic benefits. But with annual revenue of $59 billion they may have the resources to offer employees far beyond any small to medium enterprise. But you don't have to be big to be best. Some smaller organisations have offered employee benefits that don’t cost the earth, but get real credit from their employees and the industry at large.

An easier way to find highly skilled candidates in a competitive marketplace is the use a recruitment agency. Here at McDougall HR we are constantly expanding our digital networks and engaging with high-level candidates across most industries.

These ‘passive’ candidates aren’t looking at job boards every day because they are too busy kicking goals in their current careers. If you are not ‘connected’ digitally to them, you will miss out on getting your position under their nose and potentially taking your business to the next level.
