Safety issues Project Managers while working on the HV Substation with extension or modification
It has been often noted that while constructing the new substation there is always an additional requirement related to extension of the existing substations or modification to them. Many accidents happens due to taking it granted as the work related to that part is minimal as compare to the complete scope of work.
Therefore following safety precaution shall be taken while working on the remote stations
Outside Area:
While working on outside area like the Gantry make sure that your team is working on proper designated line or circuit. You must install temporary earthing and check that you are working on a safe distance from the live lines which depends upon the working voltage, also make sure that the tools or vehicle you bring shall also be in safe zone and as majority of the accidents happens due to clear violations of clearance as per voltage requirements. You must accompany a safety engineer who shall prior to work inspect and preferable shall stay their time during the execution work particularly the places where the distances are too close.
Inside Area:
Often working on indoor side like modifications to the protection or control circuits it is mandatory that any senior protection and control engineer shall be working on the same. Although it is not as lethal as working on outdoor side but it can cause an abrupt failure of the lines and can de establize the network. It has generally been observed that while conducting the modification many circuits cause failure due to not bypassing of the same. Other things which need extra precaution that you need extra care while working on CT PT circuits as any open loop can badly affect the device.
