I've always admired people who choose to create rather than critique, who take to action rather than cynicism, or choose to serve rather than feel entitled. In Boulder, Colorado there's an entire family that I believe embodies these qualities; the Van Heysts. I don't know that I've ever had a conversation with Carrie, Della, or Peter that didn't revolve around building or galvanizing a community to address a local or global problem. Relentlessly active in the Boulder community, they are everywhere, always supportive, always engaged. I appreciate all that they do, and more importantly, what they are now trying to do...build the awareness and engaged communities necessary to take on some of the world's biggest problems.
Ever wonder what's being done to address some of the most critical issues, or maybe wanted to get involved but not sure where to start? Well, if you're the Van Heysts, you leverage all of your resources, experience, and network to bring together some of the world's greatest thinkers on topics like
- cyber security,
- shortages of natural resources,
- the need for nontoxic energy,
- safe food,
- safe water,
- safe communities,
- equity in laws and opportunities
put them all under one roof, hold a 3-day conference in Boulder and appropriately name it World's Greatest Problem Solvers.
What? Your family doesn't do that? Yea, mine neither. #dontjudge #maybenextyear
In their words,
World’s Greatest Problem Solvers is bringing together some of the world’s great thinkers and profound problems to find new ways to overcome many of our greatest challenges. We’re taking a deep look into the role of the Internet of Things and its effect on confronting problems worldwide.
I have the utmost appreciation for their efforts to inspire, educate, and motivate the community to be more aware and more engaged. Truly grateful.
If you've been looking to get involved, connect with others interested in these topics, or just be better informed, I would urge you to check out the agenda for the event and if possible make the trip to Boulder, Colorado . I hope to see you there.

Please note: there is a registration fee for the event; My thoughts on the fee - when you consider how much time, effort, and money you'd have to spend to personally connect with the expertise, awareness, and great spirits that will be at this event, it's phenomenal value for anyone that is truly looking to get involved. They've been kind enough to offer a discount for the 'Genius community: Please include the registration link: https://wgps.veodesic.com/events/8/event_registrations/worlds-greatest-problem-solvers and the coupon code: GeniusSolver that will knock off $100.

10 年Greetings Toma. Totally agree - I've had interactions with Peter, and always leave the meetings feeling positive, he's a force. Wish I was available for this event.

10 年In Albuquerque we have been working on something similar, in that we have a huge new Innovate initiative... the group has a new tag line, "Launching Big". New Mexico has been overly comfortable as host to Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs and three high tech military bases, but no longer... Diversification, Innovation, Speed to Market, Addressing World improving problems "head on" is galvanizing the community here -- and it's GREAT. Each community must gather Leaders and Thinkers, surround themselves with Doers and make some magic! Wish I could attend WPGS... but other travel commitments won't allow it. Hope there will be a Whitepaper of the outcomes and observations! Have a powerful meeting!!!

10 年I like this concept of "bigness" and not having people be afraid of failure. So often, it's that one idea out of 25 that launches the next Google, Allot Communications, Facebook, etc. I want my team to think big and dream about things that everyone else thinks is impossible or "way out there." I'd like to learn more about this Boulder, Colorado think tank that embodies these issues.
