I'm from your newsletter -- don't block me from reading

Not to pick on Greatist (which is awesome and I discovered thanks to the amazing women over at Levo League), because they aren't the only ones (talking to you @NationSwell) but this user experience really irks me and seems like it's becoming the 'new normal.'
I click on a link in your email newsletter (hooray! I'm engaged) because you are creating compelling content that cuts above the clutter (there are only a handful of newsletters that consistently do this for me). Page loads, I settle in to read the article and then 2 seconds later I am greeted with a 'sign up -- subscribe now take over' blocking out all of the content.
I understand, I get it. You need me to be a subscriber. It proves out & supports your business model. Shows you have something to monetize. I am with you.
However, if I keep coming back again and again (that's super valuable to you), shoving the 'sign up' in my face, when I in fact am already signed up is a huge turn off (to be fair, @NationSwell did fix this in their flow eventually). You have already cracked the hard nut -- compelling content that I want to engage with.
Yet, your technical execution under the wild abandonment to get additional subscribers is actually such a huge turn off, I might go from 'still casually engaged (the newsletters I'm still on but don't read actively)' to simply unsubscribe (because you are annoying me so much).
