When it comes to car sales, the more expensive the car, the more premium the advert needs to look. And if you're selling a $7,890,000 (£6,208,000) McLaren F1, your advert would have to be absolutely spot on to get a discerning buyer to take you seriously.
However, one would-be scammer appears to be using a silver McLaren F1 as a hook to grab the attention of well-heeled supercar buyers. Sadly though, said scammer doesn't have the attention to detail to pull this off – at all. The first odd move is advertising the car on US site craigslist.
Our wannabe scammer has also pulled together a whopping two images to get the juices of potential F1 owners – with £6 million to spare – flowing. Despite having just two images to match together, this con artist has chosen pictures of two obviously different cars – one has wing mirrors mounted to the top of the doors, while the other car's are fitted to the F1's flanks. No, we don't imagine that F1 owners regularly swap the position of their mirrors either...
Even more unusually, the advert goes on to claim that this specimen has lost 13 horsepower over its 20-year existence, bringing it down to a meagre 614bhp. Frankly, it's not worth bothering for a paltry 614bhp.
And the icing on the cake? The seller claims that this model has covered more than 78,000 miles – a huge amount for such a high-end supercar. We think we'll spend our £6 million elsewhere; this 1,004-mile F1 for instance (with thanks to Car and Driver).
