What Value are You Bringing to Your Relationships?
Have you ever had a conversation with someone, which had so much positive emotion, it gave you Goosebumps? That was the physiological response to forming a special personal bond made out of titanium. How does one go about creating this kind of extraordinary emotional connection with another human being—someone you just met?
To start with, there are rarely random occurrences—chance meeting of minds. Even when random chance seems to make the introduction, you’ll usually find some sort of purpose fueling the interaction. It’s either that, or you in some way were prepared for the connection. How? You already had your antenna up because of interest in the subject, which caused you to be genuinely interested in the other person, as well as have his best interest in mind. When you’re for real, you can’t fake it.
Relationships are like a patchwork quilt, we’re all different patches, but we’re knitted together in the tapestry of life. We are here for each other.
Do you remember the tremendous joy you felt the last time you helped someone? When you pay it forward, when you give of yourself with no quid pro quo in mind, the heavens open up and incredible opportunities rain down upon you like a summer sun-shower.
The great ones wake up every day thinking about the value they can add to their relationships, personal and professional. What can you bring to the people you’re going to meet, are hoping to meet? How can you improve their lives or business experiences? What can you bring to the party?
You want to astound them? Bring the unexpected—find out the other person’s needs and bring them with you! It’s your need he thinks he has to satisfy. When he realizes it’s the other way around, that you’re there for him, that that’s your focus instead of yourself, he’ll feel like he just won the lottery!
What a simple thought, yet, alas, most people just don’t get it—the great “secret” to success.
