Climate Responsibility: US and China Must Step Up

Today all the politicians are talking about Climate Change at the Climate Summit. Let's be honest. The real problem with climate change is the U.S. and China. By and large, those two giants are the only ones that can turn the ship around. This map image says it all. It tracks global GHG emissions by country. The larger the bubble, the bigger the emissions load.

Granted, I am optimistic that solar power and green energy will rapidly eclipse carbon fuels as green power prices drop. But that's, at best 20 years out, which is a long time for us to continue spewing so many GHGs into the air. I realize some people think Climate Change is fake.

The scientists totally disagree. Regardless, green energy sources are much better for the world. Green power has fewer externalities (pollution, environmental damages from mining or drilling, etc). Green power supplies local power, minimizing geopolitical conflicts. And, increasingly, green power is riding the Moore's Law cost curve down which is awesome. So I truly hope that today the leaders of China and the U.S. can finally get serious about supporting green power in an even more substantial way and overturning the long-held market imbalances in energy production costs driven by hidden subsidies to carbon fuel production industries. Let #Climate2014 be a turning point.
