Want to work for me? Keep your CV typo-free

This week I started recruiting for people to join my inbound marketing team at Fresh Egg.
I actually enjoy the whole recruitment process and get excited when I meet new potential candidates, especially that magic moment when you think "you are perfect for this role".
However nothing turns me off more than receiving a CV with a typo in it. To me if you can't be bothered to check through your CV or application letter before you send it over, then this does imply that your commitment to work for us is maybe not 100%.
It can also tell me that when it comes to producing written reports, blogs and presentations you may not be the precise person we need.
Often it's only one really simple typo or mistake, but this can really ruin what is otherwise a perfectly good application.
Now I would admit that my spelling isn't always bang on, but for anything important I will at least re-read it myself to check for any errors.
Two ways to ensure this doesn't happen to you:
- Ask someone else to proof read it for you (they may even spot some other things that you forgot to include in your CV)
- Press 'F7' on your keyboard (PC users) - sounds simple, but it's the short cut to the the spell-checker
Other classic CV and application blunders which can really let down your application can include:
- The dates on your different job roles not matching up
- Naming a different person or company in your application letter (a sure sign of you sending out hundreds of template letters)
- Forgetting to actually attach your CV to the email that says "Please see attached CV"
- Your LinkedIn profile and your CV not matching up (another sign of lack of attention to detail)
I'm happy to say that all the CVs and applications I have had this week have been perfect - although one recruitment company that shall remain nameless should have definitely proofed their own work!
If you are a talented and ambitious marketer, who would like to work for a digital marketing agency then please have a look at the jobs we currently have on offer.
And if you are thinking of applying, please remember to check your spelling first!

10 年Ha does this actually happen? Amazing.

10 年Great post. Top CV tip from me: Take the time to slightly customize each CV for the post you are applying for - if you just knock out the last version you used for the post of Content Manager and Web Editor, it won't necessarily hit the mark for a post advertised as Web Editor. Match the specs with your skills!
