Check out the insights by Bersin by Deloitte's HIgh-Impact Talent Acquisition report (by Robin Erickson, PhD, PMP)--this info is highly valuable and they are offering complementary webinars this month to dive deeper.
In small business I know we do not always have the resources the big guys have, but we can learn from their research and translate into our world.
Key points for entrepreneurs:
-Finding talent takes work and coordination and has a direct impact on your top and bottom line. Performance outcomes are tied to talent, the better you do the more you outperform your competition. So find the time to do it well at all levels.
-Develop strong relationships with the managers and key players in your organization that will be working with and for the talent you are seeking--when you involve your team you not only get the best match for the position, but you develop the perception that TA is important organization wide. I also think it increases the teams perception that they are valued as talented players.
-Develop a strong candidate pool before you hire! Way too many times I see small firms hire fast because of constraints on time and investment. The better your choices the better performance you will have in the long run--so if you don't have a great talent pool, keep looking and don't settle for almost right. This is always a pressure in business, but when the owner/president is leading the TA process there are even greater demands to go fast and get on the next pressing issue.
