Changing the way oil waste is treated at a site or in a company is not always straighforward. We have worked and are working with many waste management companies around the world. Different as they are, they all have one thing in common. They have in place a current approach to oil waste treatment. In some cases this might involve millions of dollars worth of equipment, nitrogen blanketed decanter centrifuges and semi-automatic processes that are processor controlled. In other companies there is only a storage tank for the waste and a re-circulating pump.
Demulsifier chemistry such as SAS supplies is only a part of the puzzle that needs to be solved in order for the desired results to be achieved. The flow of the process and the role of the chemical in that oil waste treatment process are equally important.
At SAS we work with our customers to minimize the risk of introducing a new product and a new step in the process through
- waste sample testing,
- joint evaluation of the current oil waste process and
- design and completion of a field trial, including how the oil demulsifier will be injected and mixed with the waste.
The most important question people have after seeing our products and demulsifier videos is “will it work for me in my situation?”. The only way to answer this question is to run a “field trial”. In our world, this means running a small trial in the field to see how our chemicals work with our customer’s waste stream(s) and their process.
We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for our customers to run this type of “field trial”. We offer our customers what we call a “mini pallet”. This mini pallet is 100kg of product delivered within 2 weeks to anywhere in the world, which provides companies with sufficient product to carry out a meaningful (treating up to 20 tons of waste, or 100 bbl) set of trials on real mud or sludge or flowback, on real waste and in real time using field equipment and processes. The result of this activity provides real results that can be used to develop a business case.
This approach helps our current and potential customers reach a well-informed decision. Instead of spending time and resources carrying out a paper exercise (which, often gets them no closer to their ultimate goal), they quickly generate the data that they need to make a quality business decision.
