“The best and the most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.”- Helen Keller.
As human beings, emotion moves us. Pain, anger, joy, thrill, motivation… we ‘feel’ these emotions!
Take motivation for example, we love getting inspired. We love getting inspired through nature, through ideas that make us feel that we can move mountains. Every person, friend who can make us feel so, is invaluable. We feel extreme positive emotions when we surround ourselves with such people, such quotes, reads, and such an environment as a whole.
Technology is shaping the way we live, breathe, eat, drink, and communicate, all of it. In the pyramid of wants; internet is become as important as a physical need.
What restaurant we should go to, what clothes we buy, which holiday destination to go to gets influenced by friends and their photos on Facebook!
And then business owners are trying to influence these decision makers and rope in revenue through social media channels. They are overwhelmed with questions like “How do I increase engagement level on Facebook?”, “How do I know which social media channels to have a presence on?”
Let’s pick Facebook for example:
Emotional Intelligence is key: Facebook is largely a friend’s community. People get influenced and buy products, but the influence has to be a friend who has recommended something. If you’re a boutique owner, as an example, why not ask questions like –“What dresses suit a pear-shaped body type?” Provoke people to participate, this will not just have you liked (which is also good); but having someone to comment on can do a lot more… Invite people to share photos of themselves with their best outfits, share what they think fits best or ask “What is the most appropriate outfit for a cocktail evening?”
Make people feel involved, nice about themselves, valued, share content and that could help you’re Facebook page to be a lot more liked and visited and shared! Provoke emotion.
Photos: People love photos! Landscape pictures, the “wow” photos that make people want to share… Give the photos more meaning by maybe adding a quote to the rising sun in the landscape hotel picture of yours! People love getting inspired.
Share content that helps people! If you’re a restaurant owner, put out the recipe of a popular dish, rather than post the menu items… Initiate a chat on which foods are healthy, hold a contest on which sharing a recipe with the items you put out in a post… Recognize these contributions by giving a free meal… People will feel honored and will share your presence on Facebook a lot more…
So in your social strategy, be aware that it isn't about you, weave your social stories around emotional intelligence, or maybe call it Facebook Intelligence…

10 年Understanding a brand is more than a product has significant strategic advantages, Reminds me of that Needs / Wants / Desires Pyramid in the yellow pages of Eco books - Communication is like that shiny iceberg at the Peak of a Solid mountain underneath the Rich Ocean - You just have to see it that way. Good to find resonance after aeons Rutu Goklani!
