Nurses with 2020 Vision!

There has been very little focus on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and how implementing the Act will effect Nurses. Most studies to date focus on Advance Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants and how th ey will help treat the influx of additional patients as newly insured. We as Nurses have many questions about the next 10 to 15 years and the overall health of our Profession. Will the demand for Nurses grow; or will demand dwindle due to lowered revenues for Hospitals?

During the past eight months on the NursEtAl blog at www.jimblankenshiprn.com , it seems that every conversation with readers ended with one common question, What is going to happen? The ACA was hastily thought out and slammed into place with many more demands for care and very little solutions as to how to provide that care….resources for an already strapped Healthcare Infrastructure.

The fog is beginning to clear, many of the needs are being forecasted by Nurses and by Government Agencies…..we may get a peek at the future and how Nursing will rise to care for a Nation.

Overall, the reports forecast that RN positions will grow to 3.5 million by the year 2020. A growth rate of 26% over the next six years! RN demand will grow most rapidly in the Out Patient settings; Primary Physician Offices and Home Health.
