The Best Way to Find the Best Employees

We are running out of room in our new office. When we moved into this new office 15 months ago with around 250 employees, there were some at VaynerMedia who wondered how we were going to fill these two huge floors. Not me. Now we’re pushing 400 employees, and it’s getting cozy in here. Just the way I like it.

Insane growth like this is only possible with insanely good staffing, and I will congratulate myself a little when I say that we are damn good at hiring. This has lead to a lot of people asking me how we handle that process.

Now, I’m already running a social/digital agency during the lucky stage in my career where I’m a “known personality” in that field. I’m speaking, I’m doing YouTube shows, and ultimately they come to me.

This advice is obviously not practical to anybody but me, so in the interest of providing value here are my thoughts on hiring:

I think the best tactic is very simply to be searching Twitter for terms related to the job, and then doing the homework.

The dirty little secret here is that people just don’t want to put in the work. Do you have any idea how easy it is to find good employees? Here is the rundown if you want to hire, say, a designer:

  • Go to Twitter and look for people talking about design blogs, design forums, design software in your area.
  • Click their profile
  • Find the link to their design portfolio
  • Pick four people you like
  • Email or tweet and ask if they’re looking for a job
  • One says yes
  • Three say no, but two of them refer you four people who are kind of like them
  • You now have five solid leads
  • And you hire one of them

… but that just took eight hours, didn’t it?

But the truth, my friends, is that this is how you actually do it. Everybody is looking for quick tactics to make it easy, but putting in the work always, always gets the job done.

One step better is to hire someone who works from home, then you don't have the location issues or the cost of infrastructure. Use https://www.vaplacements.com and they will find a perfect match for free so you can cut those 8 hours down to 10 minutes.

I agree with this as one approach. Some are concerned that some applicants don't use social media, which may be the case and certainly this shouldn't be the only recruiting strategy...but for many designer/marketing/Web positions social media is a skill that an employer is looking for. When looking for new talent sometimes it's best to look into it for yourself rather than sift through resumes and cover letters.

it is a routine to know biodata , experience of a person when searching for employee , this is a way where we are seeking right candidate but there is a route in addition the quality of a person how he behave to superiors and how he follow the superiors and how he works in industry for the greater acheivement in the short period
