Make your customer shine

Many consultants try to play always a lead role and being in the spotlight for most of the time. However - smart consultants practise rule #2: Make your customer shine.

Instead of appearing smarter, more experienced, more skillful, better or more important than your customer, ones focus should always be to make him / her look good. To help your customer to be considered brilliant. To support him / her in achieving the targets and be recognized for that.

So, prepare the slide set for the next board meeting, but let your customer do the presentation. Write the business case, but let your customer send it out. Or do the architecture tradeoff analysis and define the target architecture, but let your customer present the findings and ideas.

Make your customer shine - and your customer will hire you again.
