To sell well, you need to thoroughly understand your product and to accept any of the requirements your customer may have. But before that happens and once you have that information, a good salesperson will understand that the most important part is a positive selling attitude and what goes on in their mind.
Selling is truly an attitude. It is impacted how you think and feel about things. The approach that you have to you, the company you work for, products you sell and even your customers. That is found in your confidence, pride and care.
? Confidence – The foundation for your selling attitude, this isn’t a blind hope. Instead, it is what you think about yourself and the future you will have.
Self-belief - With a confident person, there is a belief in themselves that aids their selling capability. In order to generate trust in what you are selling, you need to be able to sell it to yourself. Although this won’t guarantee a sale, it will improve your chance of success.
If your selling attitude is clouded by self-doubt, you will never be successful. If you can’t believe in you or your product, why would the customer believe in either of you? Doubt will impact both sides and it will never lead to a sale.
Informed optimism – Having a blind belief, doesn’t always translate to success. Being positive because you know the product and the customer is one thing, having blind optimism is another, because you are going on faith, not knowledge about the situation.
When you sell with solid information, you have a reason to be optimistic. Even in cases you don’t have all the information you’d like to have, you can still be optimistic and have a positive selling attitude.
Can-do – When you have both self-belief combined with an optimistic attitude, you will have all you need to be successful with your sales. Just know that belief can only take you so far as you need to actually work hard with that selling attitude for results.
? Pride – You will notice there are two types of pride. After all, it is considered one of the seven deadly sins and is very selfish. But pride on things beyond yourself that shows you care about your customers and communication is important.
Pride in the company – There is pride in the company and having an association with a brand that has strong, core values and makes you feel good. You should be comfortable telling people you are proud of where you work.
Pride in the product - Having some pride in what you are selling is also important. Just having the selling attitude that you are happy you can sell an incredible product is a very powerful thing.
Just like taking pride in working for a company is an incredible motivator, having pride in product can be a driving force for the sale to a customer.
? Care – Your selling attitude should also reflect you care. As opposed to unloading items on your customers to meet a quota, you should want to help them and to solve their products. Think about what you have available and determine how you can actually help them.
Caring for your customers takes the time to sell to them under a normal context and ensure that the product is working and meeting their needs. You can also ensure that that you send out friendly birthday and Christmas cards to them and their associates also.
With your new understanding of the selling attitude, it will be possible for you to earn more trust, which is the foundation for selling more.
