Bank Branch.....Can't live with em Can't live without em

Banking hall today is the main transactional arena for all banking service. The physical bank branch is a conducive environment provided by the bank for banking activities. Typically customers walk in during designated periods to meet up with bank agents who are ready and capable to service the customer’s needs and to provide financial advice to the requesting customer. The main goal is to guarantee reliability, foster trust, provide security and also guarantee confidence in the banks capability to provide all financial solution to the public.

Established in a predominantly cash based economy with a good majority gradually making efforts to become literate, bank branch operations has fostered financial inclusion for many people and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) at the bottom of the pyramid. Small business make up a large majority of under-banked while majority of individual make up unbanked. These form a large set of potential market for a banking institution.

In the efforts to increase customer base and also spread banking capabilities across all sectors of the market, branch operations provides a fundamental location for both marketing and promoting services while creating the awareness, trust and need for financial activities through an established regulated institution i.e. Bank. These considerations positions bank branch as highly strategic asset especially within quarters that require physical edifies as proof while imbibing awareness and trust. Hence bank is a place one may visit.

Due to the growing understanding of banking services and prudent improvement of technology capabilities, banking operation have observe a rather gradual but steady shift in the embrace of improved means of banking. This situation is predominantly evident within the urbanized group, technology savvy and a critical mass of the youth. To this group banking is an activity that could be performed over technology means.

Since a good majority of bank customers prefer brick and mortar model banking institution and with the high rate of unstable power and network, efforts are usually put in place to provide a place/location for banking activities where technology dependencies is under the control of the bank. These usually serve as a first or last resort for customers; even though this has direct impact on our operating cost.

Hi Anthony, I have technically created and launched such kind of an ecosystem where the Bank's branches will grow linearly at a very low cost while maximum facilities can be achieved. For services like Cash-In and Cash-Out facilities can be enabled by creating the concept of Village Level Entrepreneurs. These are like the agents who can still travel to certain rural areas and enable the services to the customers. We can discuss this in details if required.

Hi Tony, Banks especially in Ghana should adopt a paperless system to ensure efficiency and accuracy. This practice if accepted and inculcated will eventually improve and enhance cross border and international platforms for trade finance transactions.

Hi Anthony, one of the effective concept would be of Branchless Banking or Kiosk Banking where Agents can be turned up as Customer Service Points(CSP). These CSPs can be used for the Cash-In,Cash-Out (Biometric) and Account Opening(e-KYC).

Hi Anthony, banks needs a model where the number of branches grow linearly while self service channels grow exponentially. This is definitely the path to long term profitability and customer satisfaction as it will be easier to tailor customer experience on self service channels compared to physical locations.
