Intelligent Business Transformation

Intelligent Business Transformation

We're now in a world which seems obsessed with transformation, and if it involves a small enterprise (less than 50 staff), the challenge is palatable. When a medium-sized enterprise (up to 250 staff) embarks on a transformation, the complexity becomes a bigger pill to swallow; but for much larger companies, the challenge can be monumental.

Ambition, innovation and vision are stimulants that excite stakeholders and teams with passion, buy-in and a readiness to put a budget on the table; but that's often where the good-times screech to a halt, because that's when the real challenge comes into play.

It's like the expeditions to conquer the world's most intrepid routes across oceans, up mountains, and through Arctic-like conditions. The conceptualising, publicity and fundraising are fabulous fun, and it lights the fires in the bellies of so many people. But unless the approach is intelligent, using lessons learned, best practices and high-calibre people, the chances of achieving a truly successful outcome diminish quite dramatically.

An Intelligent Approach to Business Transformation

Intelligent transformation comes after the initial vision and hype, but before things go further. It starts with transformation strategy.

Intelligent transformation involves the Transformation Executive agreeing with the C-suite that an integrated, holistic and proven business transformation methodology will be used from the outset. One that some of the world's greatest companies have already successfully leveraged; one that will help build the elusive bridges between technology and the business; and one that ensures the nine management disciplines of business transformation are adequately addressed.

Anything less is likely to result in the randomness that is far too common. A randomness driven by a disjointed "I know best" approach, which has resulted in the anti-climax of the large majority of transformation programmes. Those that run late, over-budget, realise less value than planned, and are painful journeys for everyone involved.

The most difficult part of "Intelligent Business Transformation" can be the decision to proceed in a way that the company and its leaders are unfamiliar with. It is the courage to understand that successful business transformation management involves far more than kicking off a series of technology projects with some business process engineering and change management thrown in for good measure. A realisation that; "the world's best have already moved on from that approach, and that we can too".

Business Transformation Management Methodology (BTM2)

The world's first integrated, holistic and proven business transformation management methodology was established by SAP Business Transformation Services and thought-leaders from business and academic worlds.

Business Transformation Advisor

Whether they come in the form of a "Trusted Advisor" to the company's business transformation executive (CIO, CFO, etc) or a "Transformation Programme Manager", the right person (preferably BTPM or GBTM Certified) can guide a company's transformation executive through every step of their transformation from start to finish, ensuring each of the management disciplines shown above is adequately addressed, and that BTM2 is appropriately and pragmatically leveraged.

The right business transformation expert and BTM2 provides transformation executives with an intelligent approach to business transformation, which can significantly raise the odds of achieving the successful outcomes evangelised by the visionaries and expected by stakeholders.

Intelligent business transformation is what will separate successful transformation executives from the rest.

Hi Rob. Excellent “primer” on proper Business Transformation approach and management. By definition BT forces us out of our daily comfort zones – mainly because of uncertainty. Here, and by following your lead, you dispel much of that uncertainty … Good post !!
