Finding Your Zen

We live in a fast paced world and are bombarded day with sights and sounds. It's sensory overload....

So what to do to combat all the daily input and clear your mind of all the unnecessary information? Take five minutes out of your day to do absolutely nothing. Yes that's right...absolutely nothing! Actually what you are doing is emptying your mind of all of the million and one things that are running through it. Meditation is by far one of the greatest self care activities we can give ourselves. A very simple five minute meditation works wonders to revitalize you. Some people may view mediation as simply sitting there with you eyes shut for five minutes. For some that may be what they need is a good five minutes of quiet time. To maximize the benefit fully you need to actively meditate at least at first it takes some effort. The steps are simple. First chose a spot where you are not going to be disturbed for the five minutes. Second put the phone away it's tough but the Tweets can wait. Third find a nice comfortable spot and sit down and relax and close your eyes. Fourth focus on your breathing inhale and exhale slowly and deeply, this also helps rid your mind of all the clutter by focusing on your breathing. You should start noticing you are feeling more relaxed and calm. Finally while you are in this calm and relaxed state try to empty any thoughts images etc from your mind the goal is nothing in your mind. Congratulations! You have found your Zen! The more you do this the easier it becomes and the better able you will be to handle anything that has you feeling overwhelmed.
