As sales professionals, we have all been there. Perhaps you are there now—your pipeline has dried up; you look out onto the horizon, and NOTHING! No prospects, no clients, no sales, and you are FREAKING OUT. You might even have thoughts such as, "what if I never get another sale again?"
But Before you throw in the towel and swear off sales for eternity, just take a day and practice something I perfected back in high school: DITCH!
Yes, ditch work! Because just when you think you need it the least is actually when you need it the most. So sleep in, go to the beach, go to the pool, take a spa day, go play golf, do something that feeds your soul. Now, your boss might not agree with me, and I understand, but when they see the results that always come after a day of rest and relaxation, they'll be telling you to ditch more often.
Here are the top three reasons why ditching work is good for your business:
1) When you're in a negative state of mind, you’re not efficient anyway. In fact, when you're when you're worried, sad, anxious, or angry, and desperate for sales, your customers can smell it a mile away. Its days like this where everything you touch turns to manure anyway. So take a day and go play!
2) When you take a day of rest, you tap into your creative side and a new thought level. Einstein once explained that:
You cannot solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it."
Sometimes this new thought level will give you the perspective to see things in a new way. Maybe, just maybe, this quiet time is exactly what you need today in order to see the opportunity that is all around you, today and tomorrow.
3) Taking some time for yourself sends a very big message to the universe: you are WORTHY! And when you send out your worth to the universe, the universe will always match you. You are a spiritual being having a corporate experience, and your spirit needs time to rest and relax. Even God rested on Sunday!
Here's an added bonus:
Once you've taken a day of rest with this new cool, calm, and collected mindset, take some time and write down some new goals for the day ahead, the week ahead, the month ahead.
Be BOLD with your goal setting; it’s you after all—relaxed, rejuvenated, magnificent you! Some of my biggest tickets came right after I was ready to throw in the towel. So take a day of rest and get back in there! You're just one juicy sale away from falling back in love with sales all over again.
