Tip of the Week #4: Prove Your Value

Today's video tip is a great way for people to make an impression on prospective employers, whether it's through their application or in an interview.

Employers want to know how you will add value to a role and every single person should be able to quantify exactly how they do this. The video below has some examples of ways that you can attach a figure to your achievements - this will give the hiring manager a clear idea of what you bring to the table.

This doesn't always have to be a financial figure. You may have worked in a role where you managed several people - tell me how many. If you have worked as a PA, the most valuable thing you do is save your employer time. You create efficiencies within his or her day, and speaking from personal experience, this is a terrific value-add.

There is a school of thought that when hiring a candidate, employers should add on a cost on top of the salary they are offering. This builds in things like tax, phones, computers and so forth. What you need to do is prove why you are worth that cost.

When in an interview you are asked to go through previous jobs, don't be vague about what you have done. The fact that you have got this far is proof that the company thinks you have something about you, qualities that they are looking for. In a way, you've already won half the battle.

The next step is for you to demonstrate very specifically what you have achieved and how this will benefit them. Remember the vacancy exists because there is a problem within the organisation - so show them why you are the solution.

In other words, a job interview is a sales call. Selling is about connecting your product or service to the core needs of the business.

A great insight. You are determined by the contribution you make for your organization. Many people are of the false opinion that coming to office regularly without remaining absent, working on your assignments, keeping a good relations with your boss shall entitle him for elevation / promotion / facilities / perks. This is not the way it works. Job market determines the value & if you can exhibit some of your competencies exceptionally well you are considered valuable. If you are valuable you are recognized, if you are recognized you will given more and more of important functions & with the completion of such functions you become irreplaceable. Your value soars and you are sought after by everyone.
