Do not overlook your greatest asset!
No matter what industry you are in it is easy to get caught up in the every day madness of your job. Running from one meeting to the next and working on several projects it is easy to miss the big picture. That big picture is created by your team the same team that enjoys hearing from you often and seeing you in person. That big picture is called success and can only be achieved in my opinion by surrounding yourself with great people. I know as you read this you feel this is common sense so why do we let the days go by without influencing our people? As we enter the middle of the year now would be a good time to check in with each person on your team and have them share with you how they feel the first half of the year went. More importantly, this is a great time to check in on their career goals. What have you done to help them with achieving their goals? Do you even know the tools and resources they need? For most of us we have former managers we stay in touch with. Why is that? That is because you worked for a leader not just a manager. Someone who made an impact on you and your career! So ask yourself this question: When the time comes for someone on your team to move on will they remember you? Or will it be your team that eventually overlooks you??? Lead by example and focus on Talent Management the results are priceless!
