Brand it like its awesome

If you are a start-up, probably you have not paid attention to the branding of your company. Because you think its too early or you just dont have time to sit and identify what are your brand guidelines or brand values or whatever. Because you are in the beginning stages and you are focusing on getting more money in more business in and so on.


Yes you do have a super awesome funky logo that you have created with all your heart and you had tears of joy when you got it finalized and now you are all set to launch it and show it to the world.

You have a great product and you know it will do well and you know who is your target market this and that. But listen! do you know how will you built your brand? your color scheme the font you use and all the standardization? Let me guess what .. you are thinking come on Ammar what are you saying I am just a start-up I will do that later.

Yeah thats fine .. you can do that later but why not think about it now. It will only take an hour. Yes an hour .. for now atleast. Or may be less.

It is not just about the logo.

Yes you have a super awesome cool logo. So lets standardize it. What font are you gonna use. How much space you want to leave all across the logo and what what is the suitable background for the logo to look awesome and how will the logo be positioned, placed and modified in awkward background colors.

Is your logo having a recognition value?

You are walking by the street and you see "M" a yellow M on red background probably 600 meters away and you know that is Mc Donalds. That is recognition value of the brand called Mc Donalds. What is your symbol? or logo that I can see from far and say oh yeah .. thats Facebook (Facebook has this "f') that has the recognition value and obviously recognition grows when you grow as a brand.

Factors that standardize your brand

Knowing your logo. Colors. Fonts and positioning on Web - Print Media etc.
Know your colors and stick with them.
Know your message. KFC says .. (so good) What is your message and why?

Brand Association

People will know you by your logo and styling. But in their mind they will know you and remember you by your service and quality (can be good or bad). For example when I say "Pizza" what comes to your mind. MMMMMMmmmmm let me guess .. (Pizza Hut?) that means in your brain the keyword Pizza has a space for Pizza Hut. So when you wanna eat pizza you will go to pizza hut most probably. Brand is a psychological real estate that a pizza hut owns in your brain for the word pizza. Same can be for Anti virus .. it can be Norton or McAfee.

So what kinda real estate you wanna own in people's mind .. ??
