How are you introduced to hiring executives to potential clients?

Have you ever been introduced by a trusted advisor, friend or business peer to a hiring executive or a potential client? Most of us would fall into the "yes" category, but was that introduction about YOU appropriate, accurate or how you would have preferred to be introduced to that individual?
Why would you let someone else take creative control of your introduction? Why not create your own introduction for your network to use when you are in transition or for a connection to a potential client? Make it easy for ANYONE that will be facilitating the introduction process to a desired individual, potential client, hiring executive, etc. I have had many business professionals in transition request introductions to other business professionals for networking, benchmarking, company intelligence and for many other reasons. What do I say about that person when I make that introduction? What if that business professional in transition told me they would send an introduction I can use when I facilitate that introduction? That would make the process efficient and effective.
Your introduction should be a short paragraph written as if the person sending the introduction wrote that introduction about you. If this is an introduction request for prospecting, then keep the "selling" about your company and products to a minimum and reference something interesting about you. Do you sit on a company's board of directors, serve on the board of a charity, public speaker, author or you are a retired professional athlete, then share that in your introduction. Create an introduction that is succinct, compelling and interesting.
Now you can take control of the destiny of an introduction and secure that interview, meeting with a prospective client or any other key introduction you have requested or others want to make on your behalf. Help them help you!
