IS MOBILE REALLY THE FUTURE?
Wait don’t shoot, I know all about mobile or maybe the odd new term digital, but isn't a mobile device really just a smaller, constantly connected PC? And hasn't the line blurred between a PC a phone and a tablet (I don’t want to say phablet).
If you look closely the battle is not really Mobile VS PC, it is actually Apps VS Browsers. Yes Mobile is the natural environment for Apps and PCs remain tied to the web, but the question remains where will the constant evolution take us once the line separating a PC and tablet goes away completely. Are we going to come out the other end App centric or will we have a hybrid environment? Or maybe we will wind up with something like what Marc Andreessen and others have been discussing for a while, where Apps inherit some of the flexibility, and openness of the browser world. After all, this was always the main idea behind the internet revolution. Why would you have anything resident on your device if you have a constant connection and infinite bandwidth?
A bigger issue maybe not technical though, with the App model there is a central authority, while the allure, and arguably even the biggest motivation behind the web was the absence such a central authority this allure is one of many reasons why many web pioneers are fascinated by Bitcoin’s underlying technology today.
I am personally fascinated by the possibilities of the convergence and the fact that no matter what we do or think, we always get at least a bit surprised with the outcome, and more importantly reenergized and motivated to participate helping make the unexpected materialize
