IS THERE REALLY SUCH A THING AS MOBILE?
Wait don’t shoot, I know there is mobile, but isn’t a mobile device really just a smaller PC? And hasn't the line been blurred between a phone and a tablet (I don’t want to say phablet). Most of the usage numbers we see, especially in payments are more indicative of something other than usage of mobile.
If you look closely the battle is not Mobile VS PC, it actually Apps VS Web. Yes Mobile is the natural environment for Apps and PCs remain tied to the web, but the question remains where will evolution take us once the line separating a PC and tablet goes away completely. Are we going come out at the other end App centric or will we have a hybrid environment? Or maybe we will wind up with something like what Marc Andreessen and others have been discussing for a while, where Apps inherit some of the flexibility, openness After all, that was always the thought process behind the internet revolution. After all why would you have anything resident on your device if you have constant connection and a huge pipe?
A big issue maybe not technical though, with the App model there is a central authority, while the allure, and even the motivation behind the web was the absence of one. This allure is the real reason web pioneers are fascinated by Bitcoin the technology today.
I am personally fascinated by the possibilities of the convergence and the fact that no matter what we do, we always get surprised, at least a little bit, with the outcome and in most cases re-energized and motivated to participate to make the unexpected materialize
