The Disconnect Between Twitter and Wall Street
Will Twitter ever be mainstream? Twitter CEO Dick Costolo thinks it already is, but investors aren't listening. Twitter shares ended the day down more than 8% after the company reported first quarter earnings. Why is there such a disconnect between what Twitter thinks its promise is and the market?
I put that question to Costolo in a wide-ranging, in-depth interview about the company's future. He says Twitter is working on well over one hundred product experiments any given day and hinted at a "whisper mode" to come that would enable users to move more easily between public and private conversation.
And, contrary to popular belief, he says most active Twitter users do tweet. He's not calling it the "global town square" anymore but a "companion experience to what's happening in your world.
We also talked about the issue of inequality in San Francisco. Costolo told me that the problem is very important to Twitter, and is often discussed in the company's all-hands meetings. He said we can expect future announcements on the issue.
Oh, and for the sake of it, we took a #ShamelessSelfie. Take a listen to the full interview here.

10 年>> Twitter is rubbish.
Shocking that Wall Street analysts can't understand new technology. I'll bet the buggy whip analysts said cars were no threat.

10 年The majority of analysts (and the print captive media that reports them) have an intellectual consciousness that was shaped in the old economy. New economy business simply can't really express themselves in the type of value metrics that they'd understand. Bricks and mortar? No. Highly engaged (and influential), customer constituencies? Yes.
