Forty years in the claims business

As I enter my fortieth year in the claims handling business I fondly reminisce about the interesting and varied knowledge base I have been fortunate to acquire. The learning process is an ongoing one as each day brings about a new twist to the familiar. I have learned to analyze all the facts and to keep an open mind and to not be judgemental as much as is humanly possible. I value the mentors I have had the opportunity of learning from and the experience acquired from them.

Since 2001 I have focused on the catastrophe side of adjusting and have been able to travel extensively throughout North America, Australia and the Caribbean. I have witnessed devastation caused by hurricanes, floods and man. It is highly rewarding to be able to assist policyholders in those times of chaos whilst still honoring commitments to pay fairly to my principals.

With the new and varied technologies which have evolved or the last decade the need for highly skilled veterans of the industry is becoming more apparent. New skills are constantly being required to compete and niche firms seem to be flourishing.

It is rewarding to be a part of the Linkedin community of insurance professionals and I look forward to sharing ideas, opinions and knowledge with my peers.
