3 Most Used Features of an EHR

In a survey conducted by CMI/Compas in June of 2013, 83% of Physician responders (representing nearly 2200 Physicians across 21 specialties) reported using EHR in their practice setting; with 50% reporting reporting using their systems as part of the patient consult. When it came to the features/functions of EHR most used by physicians, the top 3 reported were:

1. Clinical Notes - 69%

2. Lab Results Interface - 67%

3. ePrescribing - 66%

CPOE and diagnostic imaging functionality followed (both at 49%). Surprisingly, functionality related to direct patient communication (part of Meaningful Use) was reported by only 22% of responding physicians, while functions such as remote patient monitoring and decision support scored lowest at 18% and 16%, respectively.

CMI/Compas will be fielding their 2014 physician-based survey next month, and cannot help but wonder how utilization of functionality will change.

Which functions and features of EHR do you think will be more prominently utilized this year, as doctors expand their familiarity and use of EHR?
