10 Career Commandments To Live By

Among many others things, I believe my career gods want me to remember these ten things...

I'm not paid to have fun.

I'm not paid to make friends.

Better planning gets better results.

I make recommendations, not decisions.

I won't get promoted just because I did my job.

People will do more for me when I do more for them.

Anyone could do 80% of what I do, I make my mark on the 20%.

If I think I should be making more money, I should find another offer.

If my team is struggling, it's my job to make it easier for them to succeed.

If someone isn't responding to my emails, then it's my fault for not calling them.

What this continually reminds me is that success is earned and I should never feel entitled to career accolades simply because I fulfilled my job description.
