Making the Right Hire Is a Cultural Issue
If you’re focused on future growth, the key is hiring the right people. But how do you know which candidate is the right one?
In an excellent piece for Inc., "Thinker. Builder. Improver. Producer. Which One Is the Right Hire?" Lou Adler explores the four types of workers and smartly ties them to two other critical factors: strengths and weaknesses on the existing management team, and where the company is positioned in the corporate life cycle.
At the end of the piece, Adler talks about cultural fit, which is, he says, “largely a product of the company’s position on the life cycle, plus the priorities and perspectives of its chief hiring manager. For each person hired, these two factors will determine whether someone will be a cultural fit.”
Multiple levels of approval required for every decision, Adler points out, can prevent rapid expansion. Many people have a problem understanding that if they can’t or won’t adapt, they are going to find themselves being pushed out of the way by the fast, increasingly demanding pressures of reality.
It is important to remember that every time people interact, culture emerges. If culture isn’t deliberately designed, it will spring up by default, and that’s not a risk a smart leader should ever take. Look at the results of the recent Glassdoor survey that revealed a 100% approval rating for LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner. Why was he rated the top CEO? Largely because of the company's culture.

11 年Perfect... I agree ... "Leaders set the tone for the culture, and empower the rest of the organization to take initiative to transform it"...but only the right and true Leader is able to do it !!
Let's think about this!

11 年True reflection Rita J. King ! It's all about the culture because we are hiring human beings with values, behaviors, experiences and expectations. Having the right fit is fundamental, culture is the philosophical heartbeat of the organization. Attitudes, beliefs, and customs are always unique to each organization and are built progressively. Cultural fit is unfortunately an aspect that many recruiters do not have always in mind when selecting candidates probably because it is also a difficult aspect to handle.
