Today I was accepted into
LinkedIn's publishing platform.
I've been spending time since the beginning of 2014 working on my writing skills. The more I write, the better I get, and I feel that this opportunity enables me to become even better.
Below are three reasons why I'm writing on LinkedIn and a section on why you should too.
1. I want others to understand why I exist
Yes, "exist" and yes, there is a deeper conversation
here. It's important for me to understand what I believe as I operate my day to day
as a human and more importantly,
that I communicate this as clear as possible. As I share this "Why?" the result is clear: I am attracting those that hold similar beliefs as me.
2. I'm opening myself up to feedback
For me, 2012 was the year I got comfortable with feedback. I learned what it means to give and receive it, and being open about receiving it has allowed me to build deeper relationships with colleagues. Additionally, I was able to better understand my superpowers and weaknesses. I believe that writing more frequently (and publicly) helps me continue being open to feedback and improve my skills.
3. I want to lead conversations about particular topics & engage influencers
I'm great at empowering people, running a business, and connecting people in my network
. I want to engage in and lead conversations, in categories where there is
opportunity to provide guidance, or simply add my two cents. My analytical mindset and wide range of experiences in life and business combined with my ability to connect dots is something I believe I can use to help those around me.
Why You Should Write on LinkedIn
Communicate and connect with the entire LinkedIn network from your main page. Communicating more about what you believe in and what you're interested in will
help you meet the best people for you. For many of you, LinkedIn has been been a fancy address book for the longest time. Now, with a publishing tool, you can engage with the
entire network and not just your connections in a personal way.
Writing will help you learn more about who you are. College students and grads want jobs, young professionals want a path to a successful career, and job seekers want better jobs. By putting content out there on a professional network you are learning two things: how to get there and how to be prepared when you arrive.
Be a leader. This is not necessarily in a raw-raw way, but it's possible. You can provide thought leadership in a way that will allow you to scale your influence - engaging both those on the network that think like you and are interested in how you think.
Just write and watch the magic happen. Join me.
If you found this article to be helpful, please share it with your LinkedIn network. I'm hoping it'll help me find more folks with similar interests.

10 年All great points and I'm eager to start writing myself. Not going to be much good at it when I start, but all the points you make are WHY I wish to start. Let's share and make the world a better place!
Great first post Vik. Really inspires me to start writing again personally as well as on the jobFig blog. I agree that it adds both greater insights into our actions for our readers and also for ourselves. Thanks!
