Philippines Typhoon: How You Can Help

We have all seen the heart-breaking images of the impact of super typhoon Haiyan – or “Yolanda” to locals – which ripped through the Philippines over the weekend, one of the largest storms to ever make landfall.

The scale of the devastation is horrific – thousands dead, hundreds of thousands displaced and millions of people affected. Many families and communities are extremely hard to reach.

The UN and partners, working closely with local authorities, are labouring round the clock to get help urgently to those affected -- airlifting food, shelter, medical and other life-saving supplies.

On Monday the UN humanitarian office announced an emergency allocation of US$25 million to fund such critical relief efforts.

But much more is needed and the UN is appealing for $301 million to provide support to those in the hardest-hit regions over the next six months.

For many across the world watching the terrible scenes from the Philippines, it can be hard to grasp how, as an individual, you can help.

But each one of us CAN make a difference. Here’s how:

Now is the time for us to come together and help our fellow global citizens in their hour of need.

I feel the utmost empathy for the victims of this tragedy, but I also would like to know if China, one of the most richest economies in the world right now, is planning to let their resources trickle into assisting anyone in need such as the people of the Philippines. Also for that matter will Russia or Iran or India, Etc. While the U.S..A.. seems to be the point country in all major disasters and world affairs, other major countries usually stay mum about being of use to those in need. Let's see some action for Earth's sake!
