Mobile is Growing, Everything Else is Shrinking

Here's a chart from the FUTURE OF DIGITAL deck we presented at Business Insider's IGNITION conference yesterday.

The chart shows the percent of media consumption time that Americans have spent on each medium in the past five years.

The message is clear:

Mobile digital media are growing, everything else is shrinking. (See the whole deck here >)

It is not only a trend of the US, but worldwide....mobile devices such as smartphones are already wearable...it is an exponential trend that will continue and it is disruptive.

The item that is missing is how much new money is being spent as a result of mobile. The biggest issue I hear from clients is that mobile fails to generate any new revenue streams. They all agree that their users are on mobile devices accessing their content. However, the device itself is not adding to more sales. These companies are trying to come up with business models to monetize mobile but it has been tough.
