Do You Know a Real Cancer Story?

Surely you have someone near you who told you his/her cancer story. Those stories are always present in your mind, right ?
A new initiative is looking to share those stories. Smartpatients is a California startup by the former Chief Health strategist of Google Roni Zeiger and Gilles Frydman, who founded the ACOR lists. They are building an online community where cancer patients and caregivers learn from each other about treatments, clinical trials, the latest science, and how it all fits into the context of their experience.
They are looking for stories and funding to collect 100 real cancer stories (in the US at first) on Indiegogo. You might want to have a look. Only through real stories we can understand better how to help patients with this disease in addition to research.

11 年Cancer, particularly eye cancer is a serious condition and need fully attention for treating it, because it can cause not only lost of vision but also many others implications.

11 年The lady I love the most, was diagnosed with breast cancer about a decade and a half back. It was my mother! I was in school and did not know much about the sickness, except that it kills. Every morning when I left to school, I hoped to come back home in the evening and see her fine. She was initially treated for something else, till we realized that the treatment was not helping. We took second and third and many opinions to be sure. The delay caused by the initial treatment, took her to the last stage of the sickness. The doctors then took charge and began treating her with utmost care. She recovered! She was operated and then treated with Chemotherapy and Radiation. Her hair shed, she became weak, could eat nothing but fruits and very minimal rice. Difficult times... But now, she's healthy and rocking! She looks as good as she did in her wedding pictures with some grey hair and few wrinkles on her face, but the lady I love the most is still the most beautiful lady I have ever seen :D Maybe treatment in certain countries are bad, but fortunately I am not in those countries. My advice to others who are in countries with minimal healthcare options, you could consult doctors in India. I assure you that the healthcare providers here are one of the best!
