Reasons for iOS outperformance in the US

The comScore mobiLens survey for the US ending February 2013 shows continuing rapid expansion of smartphone usage in the US. Even though the 50% penetration threshold was passed seven months earlier, the rate of new smartphone users was second highest ever recorded with over 1 million new-to-smartphones users every week during February.
Overall penetration increased to 57% with nearly 2% of the population switching in one month. Using the average growth rate for the last six periods, the US could see 80% penetration in another 19 months or by Q3/Q4 2014.
It remains to be seen if the consistency of growth which was preserved from 20% to 60% is maintained between 60% and 80%, but all indications so far are that it will be.
The growth in smartphones has been driven by the two dominant platforms: iPhone (iOS) and Android. Together they now make up 91% of the user base with about 40% for iPhone and 51% for Android.
Android alone gained 17 million users in the last 12 months while iPhone gained 21 million users.
iOS user gains have out-paced Android for the last four periods which resulted in a decrease in Android share of users. A reduction in Android share was also visible in the spring of last year but the current decline is not only longer but more pronounced.
The reason iOS is growing more rapidly may be due to three factors:
- Broader distribution with three out of four major operators carrying the phone
- Availability of three product variants with $0 starting prices.
- Increasing awareness and use of apps and content ecosystems due to network effects.
As distribution is about to increase with T-Mobile being added to the carrier list the growth in iOS share is likely to continue even as the market expands.

11 年Iphone Outperforms in the US cause it is has been developed keeping the US infrastructure and needs in mind. Their research is based on US Customer needs. The phones functions are not utilised completely in Other countries such as India. It has become a status symbol, to show off so people buy it.sim cards have to cut and inserted, accesories market and suppliers are thriving but the applications and functions in Android phone which require no modifications are more suited to Countries such as India.

11 年Is it increasing the cowardly of internal unfair competition in IT businesses that stimulate the lack of productivity and economic development in the USA? There is a necessity for the American companies to hire top level citizens coming from the BRIC countries because they can use again our economic models, industrial engineer models specially the ABC technique, American accounting to increase the competitiveness internally because of the cowardly way of doing businesses of the BRIC countries. They know the weaknesses and strengths of those economies and challenge the way of doing businesses in the American way. We really need the best of the best in USA instead of been kept in the BRIC countries while sending us high school students (freshers) to destroy the American economy. We cannot mix the harvesting labor with the IT labor is pretty different, we need food and these people is expertise doing it by hand, but in IT labor we need the best of the best, we cannot continue receiving low level people. We know that there are CEOs military commanding the American companies currently but it is not working at all what they are doing, we do not have economic development and increase in productivity in this economic crisis. Of course that it is necessary a military strategy in the American Companies because of the cowardly procedure of the BRIC countries working in the States and abroad competing with us, and using technology as drones is part of the solution. We need to intensify the use of the reengineering of the ERP using the America accounting and industrial engineer models like the ABC technique to increase the productivity, and enforce the SOX worldwide, we cannot continue not looking money laundry, illegal and legal business mix up because of the lack of American productivity now a days. We cannot continue having development if we continue using socialist or communist ideas in our companies while the benefits of this lack of unfair competiveness go to the BRIC countries, using their monopolies located in the States. The American Dream is almost killed by the cowardly of these socialist and communist monopolies while they are crossing American markets abroad.

11 年I honestly can't understand most comments I've read... especially the ones from "tech people". IOS (the iPhone operating system) is based on MacOSX, which in turn is based on FreeBSD, witch in turn is a unix-linux hybrid thing....Android is based on Debian which is probably the best Linux out there. In simple terms these are hybrid-made-monolithic kernels and that is why they mach the hardware perfectly and with big cohesion, stability and performance. Windows on the other hand is based on microsoft own kernels that are hybrid kernels, meaning they have a hard compiled core that loads modules as needed on the fly. So comparing the Droid to Microsoft and saying iphone is different is, for lack of a better word, nonsense... both the droid and the iphone are similar and they have nothing in common with microsoft. Second thing is the constant reboots and crashes... what are you talking about? I've had 1 Samsung Galaxy y Duos, and the only problems it had was the battery assembly that would miss-connection it the phone hit a table hard enough..this is hardware design, not the O.S. fault! My current droid is a Galaxy S Duos and works flawlessly. There is one huge difference between the iphone and the droid. You see iphone admits you are stupid and know nothing about the software and hardware you use on your phone (a good assumption because 99% of users do know nothing about the internals of what they use)...while the droid lets you do pretty much what you like with it...and if you know nothing about it, you'll have performance problems and with some badly built apps, crashes. There is another thing about the droid... it runs on zillion different devices, meaning that an app will have better chance of not working properly...while the iphone is a controlled hardware environment. One could argue that i use my droid out of the box and don'r push-it by adding apps, but you would be wrong...in fact i have so many apps that i partitioned the SD card with to have an extra 2gb partition (now filled with apps). However I also use 2 VERY important apps every droid user should know: "Advanced Task Killer" and "Performance Tool". Reboots? crashes? complaining about this on an GalaxyS running droid is the same thing as saying your car is bad because it stalled that other time you decided not to fuel-it with mud instead of regular Gas!!! There is one thing about the iphone (and all other apple hardware for that matter) that I think no one really cares: it's priced twice of what it is worth. A droid costing half the iphone value will have better or equivalent hardware...ohh and at least you'll have an sd card slot to expand at will. Today streamline droid is the GalaxyS3...it is so much better than any iphone out there that I find chocking when people still compare them. It like entering a BMW stand and compare it best 3series with the fiat in the stand across the road, just because it has 4 wheels and it's called a car. Just because you don't know how to drive the bmw right, it doesn't mean the fiat is better!!! Several people from my family own iphones, honestly I think it is a stupid buy (and proved that time and time over...especially then they run out of memory and I lend them a spare sd card just for the fun of seeing them reject because they have no way of using it)..that doesn't mean it is bad; its just TOO damn expensive for what it delivers. I suggest you appreciate the fact that droid phones allow you to actually own them and do whatever you like with them... and if you make bad decisions, live with them or just clean some bad apps or memory. I would never EVER buy a phone that costs twice as much and then behaves as I'm not actually owning it, but rather some company...jailbreak is probably the most pathetic thing on the iphone! It's just like buying a car with a locked trunk that will only unlock when you go to the ONE supermarket the car brand owns :S weird to say the least

11 年I feel whatever device is most successful at bringing out the kid in all of us during the stresses in the work week will be trend setter. This method of talk/find/learn is somewhat new to many generations as it constantly changes to set pace. Whoever provides the best graphics and usability at doing so-again is the trend setter as long as defect/problems are minimal while being most cool. That simple in my opinion~
While Analyzing Ad performance data for an ad network, I repeatedly saw more revenue (CTR) from iPhone / iOS users than other mobile devices.
