CNG food truck rolls into NYC

Today at City Hall in New York City, I joined Mayor Mike Bloomberg to unveil the city’s first mobile food truck fully-powered by compressed natural gas, Neapolitan Express. They put me to work slinging pizzas while we showcased the benefits of using natural gas as a transportation fuel.

This morning I also co-hosted Squawk Box on CNBC where we talked about our nation's dependence on foreign oil and how the U.S. can fuel domestic energy production.

Key points of the interview:

-- Despite great strides in domestic energy production, U.S. consumers are seeing no relief in gasoline prices because oil is a global commodity and Saudi Arabia is the swing producer.

-- OPEC is a cartel, and the best way to break the cartel and address rising fuel costs is to inject competing transportation fuels into the mix.

-- Taking advantage of our expanding supplies of natural gas, particularly in the heavy duty truck and fleet market, is the most realistic way to solve the national security and economic threat tied to OPEC oil/diesel/gasoline.

The good thing about Natural Gas! Burns Clean. $1.50 a gallon. Folks cook with it. Public Transporatation such as Buses and Trash Trucks run on it. For the folks that see this as a bright future, it is. Will it replace oil? What it is doing is helping in areas that some folks need, want, and like. Stopping the commercial civilized world from wanting to do business, and profit..Well! Premium at the pump- 4 bucks. Gas Wells and Oil Wells flow for years, or they can dry up like anything else. The Cost of Liveing,Taxes, and Death....Who can escape it. I need a Coke!

T. Boone Pickens is not a great guy, but changing over to natural gas sources for power plants, truck fuels seems to be the only viable game in town. There are several problems though. Natural Gas fueled trucks need some special Engine designs. These engines cost more the similiar diesel power trains. On the general supply isssue, There is no guarantee, that natural gas fueling won't result in much cheaper oil, reducing or eliminating the cost advantage. In the long term, How much NG is out there in total? this may be nothing more than a "flash in the pan" bump in Energy supply. How long do the wells last? Still, I own a few shares of CLNE..

What is the difference between all of us and T Boone Pickens. Our goal is to make gas prices low and not need to always buy so much gas. T Boone Pickens goal is to sell as much gas as possible at the highest possible price. So, why are listening to T Boone Pickens as if he is one of us?

Good show. Wish we had a couple of stations here! I would like someone to explain to me how we are better off selling our oil overseas and buying Saudi oil, which after wall street adds 30% to the price seems to make the cost per gallon just alittle too high. just saying! Mr. Boone
