Okay, this one is going to make you chuckle...
A colleauge of mine just got this connection request from someone in another country. We are protecting the innocent here by not naming names. Tell me if you would "accept" this request:
"Accept my kncok. You are so gracefully pretty I can't believe you are so beautiful truly It will be an honor to be connect with a graceful lady like you. I really mean it. Please don't take it in wrong sense. Let me Inn...I deserve to be inn:)"
Too funny, right? But then, don't we all secretly think to ourselves, "Have I done something similar?" I know I did. It's really easy to get mis-perceived when you only have a few characters to connect.
Here's the takeaway:
Asking to connect requires customization and some serious thought as to how the person on the other end might interpret the request. All of us can get enthusiastic sometimes (like the fellow above), but we should do our best to keep it in check.
I wrote more specifically about why LinkedIn requests don't get accepted and what you can do about it here...
Tell me, what's the funniest request you ever got? I'd love to hear them in the comments below.

9 年LOL, "let me Inn", humor is always a good way to broach tricky subjects. Not clear if this was the intent with this message… Seems to me there are two types of connection requests. First are the people that we have already met outside of Linked In. The second are people we are trying to meet using Linked In, which is the subject of this post I believe. I've had positive results with new connections by being honest and offering to help others build their network. For me right now I'm looking to improve my career situation. I often connect with new people that are currently employed at companies I've targeted. This has provided me with accurate inside information about the company’s performance and culture.

9 年That's funny. It would also help if you could write a post on how to add someone you don't know personally. How do u get the other person's attention (& I don't "attention" like the person has done in the post)....I guess skills at a bar are not transferable to linkedin!
Everyone deserves to be heard.
9 年I've gotten almost that exact same request. I'm going to try to find it if I haven't deleted it. It was asking to be "let inn" as well. hahaha. I obviously didn't accept. But yes, I am quite amused by the requests and inbox messages I receive.

9 年Scott, you are exactly right. Adding a personal touch when asking to be connected brings life for the whole purpose of connecting.
